Disaster Risk Consultant, Insurance Development Forum
Alastair Norris is a disaster risk consultant, based in London, working with both the Insurance Development Forum's (IDF) Risk Modelling Steering Group (RMSG) and Global Risk Modelling Alliance (GRMA). Alastair's work with the IDF focusses on the opportunity to increase understanding and access to risk information for risk financing and climate adaptation. His work with the GRMA, a public-private partnership between the IDF and InsuResilience Fund looks to expand the understanding of risk modelling and analytics across developing countries and he is currently involved in implementing projects in 5 countries.
Prior to working with the IDF, Alastair worked in the World Bank's Crisis and Disaster Risk Financing team supporting countries build greater financial resilience to protect those most vulnerable to disasters.
Alastair comes to this work with a background in risk modelling, insurance and development having spent 12 years working across the risk modelling industry and the development sector. He has experience of working and communicating risk information across multiple cultures and contexts and has led large risk modelling studies in Africa, South Asia, South-East Asia as well as a number of developed countries.
Alastair has co-written internationally accepted papers/reports on both hazard and vulnerability and he holds a Master's Degree in Civil and Architectural Engineering from the University of Bath.
