Carbon Capture and Storage

12 FEBRUARY 2025, 15:30 – 17:00 (SGT)

The carbon capture & storage (CCS) scheme is one of the most scalable solutions for achieving decarbonisation. In addition, it is expected to play an irreplicable role in the transition towards a net-zero economy, even when our societies run on 100% renewables.

In the second installment of the NTUxGAIP Sci-Tech Talk Series, we are privileged to welcome Dr. Paul Liu, Associate Professor and Assistant Chair of Continuous Training and Education at the School of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, and Biotechnology, Nanyang Technological University (NTU). Dr. Liu will present on "Carbon Capture and Storage". This talk will overview the different variants of CCS technologies, their associated costs and logistic challenges. Next, we still discuss a case study of the only commercially operating post-combustion CCS project in the world. Lastly, we will discuss the challenges and opportunities of CCS, as well as CCSU technologies and relevance to Singapore's decarbonisation efforts.

This session aims to provide attendees with insights into the field of CCS, particularly its role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and mitigating climate change. We look forward to exploring its potential applications across industries, including insurance, where advancements in CCS technology could influence risk assessment, sustainability initiatives, and the development of innovative insurance products tailored to a low-carbon economy.

The NTUxGAIP Sci-Tech Talk Series is designed for insurance professionals focusing on scientific and technological innovations that can drive growth in emerging markets. These talks will be delivered by NTU researchers on the latest scientific and technological advancements. While the topics are not specific to insurance, discussions will centre on how these innovations foster growth by enhancing efficiency and sustainability and creating new business opportunities.
