Director General, Insurance Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka
Mrs. Damayanthi Fernando, the Director General of the Insurance Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka is experienced in regulatory affairs for nearly twenty-five years in the insurance industry and in the securities market of Sri Lanka. She has been at IRCSL from inception, holding the posts of Assistant Director Legal, Director Legal and from 2014 holding the post of Director General. Prior to joining IRCSL she had worked at the Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka.
Mrs. Fernando is an Attorney–at–Law of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka and obtained First Class Honours pass at the Attorneys-at-Law final examination & placed first in order of merit. She also holds a Master's Degree in Business Administration from the University of Colombo.
She was awarded the Distinguished Humphrey Fellowship Program on Development Economics by the U.S. Department of State and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board, where the programme was conducted at the Duke University in North Carolina.
Mrs. Fernando had been a member of the Task Force for the Asian Forum of Insurance Regulators (AFIR) on Information Exchange between Asian Insurance Supervisors in January 2016 and a member of the Financial System Oversight Committee established under the Central Bank of Sri Lanka Act No. 16 of 2023.
