Founder, Risk Lighthouse International
Dr. Shaun Wang is the founder of Risk Lighthouse International. He is currently Professor of Finance at Southern University of Science and Technology, China. He previously held academic positions at the University of Waterloo, Georgia State University, and Nanyang Technological University. His also worked as Research Director of SCOR Reinsurance, and as Deputy Secretary General of the Geneva Association.
He is a prolific scholar and won several international awards, including the 2023 Harold D Skipper Best Paper by the Asia-Pacific Risk and Insurance Association, the 2021 Best Paper by the China Finance Review International, the 2018 University of Kentucky Research Excellence Award, the 2010 Robert Mehr Award by the American Risk and Insurance Association, the Inaugural 2003 Bob Alting von Geusau Memorial Prize by the International Actuarial Association. He is the inventor of the Wang Transform, a formula used in pricing catastrophe insurance and weather derivatives.
He led the Risk Financing Pillar of the ASEAN Disaster Risk Finance and Insurance Phase 2(ADRFI-2) housed at the Institute of Catastrophe Risk Management of Nanyang Technological University.
He received Ph.D. in statistics from the University of Waterloo, and Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society.
